Lynn’s Sculpture and Art Dolls

I shape a wide variety of materials into representational sculpture and art dolls.  I work to evoke an appreciation of form and surprise in the viewer, and love the challenges that mixed media sculpture presents.

Recent work has returned me to the exploration of figures.  The incorporation of an ever widening array of materials and playfulness of style blurs the line between figure sculpture and “art doll”.

Being primarily self-taught frees me to use an assortment of tools and techniques, and I borrow from numerous disciplines. For a single piece I may look to the toolbox of the auto body shop, the carpenter, a jeweler, an art glass master, or a seamstress.

Nature feeds my botanical themes.  My more whimsical pieces are lighthearted, and celebrate the joy of creating.  My work has increasingly moved toward a “Steampunk” style.  I find myself intrigued by the marriage of the mechanical with the natural, and the future with the past in these designs.

I live and work in North Carolina.
